MiaMira: Sustainable Fashion Inspired by Marine Life

MiaMira is a fashion line that celebrates the beauty and diversity of life underwater through garments and accessories inspired from the patterns and colors of marine animals. We aim to use designs sourcing sustainable eco-fabric as a medium to raise awareness of marine biodiversity and conservation issues while promoting the idea of conscious consumerism.
Celebrating Biodiversity
Primarily, MiaMira aims to encourage conscious consumerism. We believe unfamiliarity and lack of exposure to marine ecosystems results in apathy and indifference towards their state of conservation. To tackle this challenge, we aim to raise awareness of the beauty and biodiversity of marine life by spotlighting its colors and patterns through fashion and create associations between marine life, art, and beauty.

The secondary mission is to promote the use of eco-friendly fabrics through emphasis on plant-based, deadstock, organic, and biodegradable textiles in our designs. Textile production is currently the second most polluting industry in terms of water consumption and contamination, toxic waste and chemical run-off, and non-biodegradable materials. Miamira advocates for the use of sustainable fabrics in the industry and wishes to propagate the idea that conservation, not convenience, should hold priority in our lives.

MiaMira is a winner of the 2017 United Nations Youth Assembly Social Venture Challenge and member project of the Resolution Project.
Recognized by the 2017 World Ocean Conference and James Cameron's Avatar Alliance Project for innovation in conservation.
